Cape Canaveral

Cape Canaveral

I met Bobby on Tinder, I love Tinder for so many reasons. He and I met in Punta Gorda/ Florida then I moved to Maine then I came back to Amelia Island, Florida and he decided to drive 5 hours to come visit me.

We reconvened at the Saloon in Fernandina Beach and after a night of laughter and new friends he suggested we go to Cape Canaveral to see the Falcon Heavy launch.

Three hours later and a tour around St Augustine we head to the launch only for it to be scrubbed at the last minute. Turnaround and realise we have no choice but to head back.

Half an hour out of our destination the battery on the car starts to die and the lights go dim, then off. So we’re doing 80 on a freeway with no lights. Then the noise starts and it’s awful. I want to stop but he instists we can make it and he was right, sort of. As we see the hotel sign the noise is unbearable and the car completly shuts down as it slowly slides into one of the hotel car spots.

Bobby opens the bonnet only to scream ‘it’s on fire’ and runs off to call the firebrigade and grab a fire extinguisher. As he runs off he tells me to grab a small bottle of water out of the now on fire car and throw it on the engine. Not really wanting to do that but I did. Next minute the sherrif is showing up and the fire engine.

Spraying yellow foam everywhere I and saving the day I realise why I love firemen so much.

To add to this drama is the fact that I lost my wallet and it fell on the road as I jumped out so was covered in foam and I didn’t come across it until 24 hours later.

One of my most memorable dates for sure. Lucky Miami Vice towing was there to make me feel like it was all a joke.
